SPEED EuroSeries News - Racer Releases

Following the launch in the U.S. of the Wolf GB08 last December by Motorsport Southwest, the new WOLF RACING CARS dealer for the North America, the marque achieved its first notable acievement recently when Max Papis tested a car at AD HARRIS HILL ROAD, and promptly recorded the new track record (1m 13.4), beating the previous record set by Papis himself in a Ferrari 458 by almost 2 seconds.

Giovanni Bellarosa: “It is a great honor for us to have had Max in our car and we’re working to bring him across to Europe to race as a STAR INVITED driver in the SPEED EuroSeries.”

The eagerly awaited chassis from the well-known Italian race car manufacturer has completed succesful tests in Vairano (Italy) on 10th and 14th May, covering 145 laps of the circuit handling and high-speed straight line test with experienced test driver Raffaele Giammaria at the wheel. Giammaria will be in charge of development and testing and the racing debut. The car is expected to be included in the entry list for the SPEED EuroSeries round at Imola in June.

The test comes on the back of the joint  announcement by Tatuus and Mugen of a technical and supply partnership on the chassis.

Tatuus Racing Gianfranco De Bellis: “I’m obviously very happy for the agreement, this official collaboration will allow Tatuus and Mugen to better respond to the requirements of teams which will participate in the Championships, providing a quality service for the purchase of cars and motors. I also thank Autotecnica Motori, which has concluded an agreement with Mugen in order to create a competitive combination. It is a common goal of expanding the combination Tatuus – Mugen in new markets.”

Mugen Euro’s Hiro Toyoda also commented: “The PY-012 is probably the most radical and sophisticated CN Sports Prototype yet designed, and consequently I am extremely pleased and proud that MUGEN EURO was invited by Gianfranco De Bellis to collaborate with TATUUS via our new associate Autotecnica Motori in the optimisation of the K20 engine installation in the chassis and the provision of MUGEN race-prepared engines to TATUUS teams.’

‘The record of TATUUS as a successful racing car manufacturer goes almost without saying, and we know the ability of Giovanni Delfino’s company to prepare engines to the exacting standards set by MUGEN in all categories or racing. We are also confident in Autotecnica Motori providing with integrity a logistically convenient high-quality customer support and engine rebuild service for TATUUS teams.’

‘This 3-way alliance also enhances Mugen’s support for Honda Motorsport Europe’s backing of the SpeedEuroSeries, always an important aspect in our business and sporting strategy given Mugen’s longtime association with Honda and its motor racing activities generally. The TATUUS-MUGEN combination has great potential for development in European and overseas markets, and we are looking forward very much to working with our technical partners to achieve this. First however is to demonstrate the potency of the new collaboration in the forthcoming races!”

Giovanni Delfino from Autotecnica Motori said “The opportunity to cooperate with TATUUS and MUGEN Euro is at the same time a real emotion and a great honor: TATUUS must be considered one of the main car manufacturers in the motorsport panorama and MUGEN Power is the name itself of a racing engine.’

‘In particular I would like to thank TATUUS who involved and trusted me concerning the PY012 project, as well as Mr. Hiro Toyoda and all the MUGEN staff that has given me the opportunity to realize the association that will allow AUTOTECNICA MOTORI to build engines following the MUGEN standards sharing all the engine design, project and tuning.’

‘TATUUS Staff has designed a magnificent car that will mark a turning point in all the CN Series and maybe more. Signing such an agreement with these two brands of the Motorsport World could really represent a milestone in the history of AUTOTECNICA MOTORI”

“We are working to make this year special,” said Ernesto Bellisari, Line Race team manager in introducing the switch to closed-wheel racing by the Lombardi team which recently  took delivery of two Wolf GB08 chassis. Having hoped to debut at Le Castellet, the team is now ready for its international program and will be on the grid in Spa Francorchamps in early May.

“The team’s first test was held at the Franciacorta circuit during a break in the recent bad weather and provided engineers with excellent data, demonstrating good potential with performance and road holding,” said Bellisari.

“We believe that entering the Speed EuroSeries championship is the right platform for us to take on,” continues Bellisari. “Tracks such as Spa, Imola and Barcelona will be high-level venues where this team will compete in top class sports weekends.”

With a driver line up set for one of the cars the team is currently negotiating with drivers for the second chassis. Interested parties should contact the team on: info@linerace.com

PRESS RELEASE
3 April 2012
THIRD PLACE FINISH AT PAUL RICARD FOR RACER READERBritain’s top female racing driver, Warwickshire’s Sarah Reader, celebrated another podium success at the weekend (30 Mar/1 Apr) when she contested the opening rounds of the SPEED Euroseries at the famous Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France.

Reader, 29 and from Loxley, near Stratford-upon-Avon, claimed a third-place finish at the wheel of her Juno sports-prototype racer in the first of the weekend’s events. Sarah shared the Juno with co-driver Chrissy Palmer (West Sussex), and qualified an excellent fourth on the grid for the 90-minute endurance race.

“The timetable was really tight,” said former Kingsley School pupil Sarah, “and with only an hour between qualifying and the race the mechanics were up against it to get the car ready for the grid.” Palmer started the race and made a good getaway to move into third, handing over to Reader at half-distance.

“Our stop was the quickest of the two-driver pairings and I rejoined in third. My stint was hard work as the high temperatures and the rubber laid down by other cars on the track meant the grip levels were low. We finished third, with the other Juno of Darren Burke and Duncan Williams just ahead; it was a great way to start the season and a brilliant reward for everyone who has been working so hard to improve the cars over the winter break.”

Things did not go so smoothly in race two, however: Sarah started, and as she accelerated up to the startline for the rolling start she found she could not change up through the gears. “It just kept hitting the rev limiter, so I dropped from fifth on the grid to ninth. After several laps struggling with the issue I found a way to drive around it, got my head down and focused on my lap times.”

After another slick driver change the Reader/Palmer Juno climbed to third until, with only six laps to go, Palmer was forced to limp to the pits with a throttle problem. “The team did a fantastic job to fix the car and get it back out, and we finished 11th; not what we hoped for but we still scored valuable points.

“All in all it was a good weekend and I was really pleased to be on the podium. The upgrades we have made to the Juno over the winter have clearly worked we just need to keep pushing now. I am so grateful to the guys at Juno for a brilliant car and the hard work and long days they have put in.”

Reader, who earlier this year received recognition of her status as Britain’s top female racer with the award of a Gold Star from the British Women Racing Drivers Club, will be in action again in early May at the Belgian Grand Prix circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

RACE ace Sarah Reader has confirmed her place as Britain’s top female racing driver with a cluster of top awards.

The 29-year-old SPEED EuroSeries driver, who began her race career as a teenager, has been handed the British Women Racing Drivers Club’s top gong at an awards ceremony at Silverstone, putting her in pole position for the coming season.

The Embassy Trophy – making Sarah the BWRDC’s overall champion of 2011 – was presented to the racing driver at a gala lunch on the back of a stunning 2011 season in the SPEED Euroseries – an international championship where she is the only woman on the grid.

And it wasn’t the only trophy Sarah, from Stratford-upon-Avon, picked up – an incredible four more followed.

Four podium finishes and fourth place overall, saw Sarah clock up more points than any other British female competing in circuit championships last year, winning her the BWRDC’s second highest honour, the Goodwin Trophy.

And Sarah’s success didn’t end there – she also won the club’s Jamieson Trophy for 2011 for notching-up the fastest average speed and the VIP Adrenalin cup for best performance in a sports racing car.

She was also one of only two drivers to be handed the BWRDC’s prestigious GoldStars Award in recognition of her continued success in international motorsport racing.

And what’s more, she’s been made patron of the BWRDC in its 50th anniversary year.

Sarah will return to the SPEED Euroseries championship when the season starts at Paul Richard in France in April, behind the wheel of Juno sports prototype car, run by the manufacturer.

“These awards are an incredible way to get set for the coming season,” Sarah said.

“I’m honoured to be a member of the BWRDC and honoured to be recognised in this way.

“I look forward to even more success in 2012!”

Sarah has been racing since the age of 17, when she started in the Caterham Academy. In 2003 she raced to third place overall in the Caterham Eurocup Roadsport class and was third overall in the Caterham CSR Masters in 2006.

Her dream is to move up a gear in the field of sports prototype racing – to compete in the Le Mans Series.
