For those who’ve wanted to learn more about aluminum foil and the uses it has around the boat, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s get right down to it!
First up, you can “polish” your sliver with aluminum foil. That’s right, if your silverware has seen better days and admit it, not many of us attend to this, then a quick soak with foil can see it shining again. Here’s what you do, thanks to a scientific process called ion exchange, your silverware can look as good as new. What you should do is line a pan with aluminum foil, fill it with some salt and cold water. Next, drop in all your silverware and let it soak in the goodness for a minute or two. Then, remove, rinse and dry. There you go, it’s good as new! You can also keep that same silverware untarnished by keeping the cleaned silverware on top of a nice clean sheet of aluminum foil.
You know what else stinks? When your steel wool gets dirty after a single use, that’s right, it downright sucks! So use aluminum once again to save the day. Just wrap your steel wool in foil and store it in the freezer. Correct, that’s how you keep it from ever rusting. It’s a fantastic method, don’t you agree? Just make sure you squeeze out as much air as possible.
One of our favorite uses is keeping the bottom of an oven clean. No matter how much of a neat freak you are, eventually some bits of food are going to fall to the bottom of the oven. When they do, they will burn each time the oven is used. To save on this, just keep a strip of aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven and replace every so often. That alone will add years to your product.
You can even improve your radiator! Just tape the heavy-duty aluminum foil to a long piece of cardboard (the shiny side must be facing out). Heat will then bounce back into the boiler, saving you a pretty penny on your heating bill.
Another neat trick is to hide those worn out spots in mirrors. Simply reverse the mirror and tape the aluminum foil (shiny side up) to the worn hole. Voilà, you mirror looks as good as new again.
Finally, you can even sharpen your scissors with foil. Make a nice thick sandwich of foil and begin cutting. After a few slices, your scissors should be sharp again.
