SPEED EuroSeries News - April 2011

The Xero Competition team WFR03 chassis will be piloted at the Spa event and onwards by Tom Bradshaw and Ben Clucas.

Team manager, Dave Beecroft is delighted to be back in the SPEED EuroSeries paddock. “It is a late start for us but it was vital for WFR to make sure the works team cars were competitive before we took over the customer car. The result at Le Castellet was a storming success and we’re excited about the remainder of the season.”

Tom was awarded the BRDC Rising Star status in 2006 and has raced in karts, Formula Palmer Audi and Formula ford. He made his debut in SPEED at Brands Hatch in 2010 and was at the Silverstone LMS meeting with the RLR Msport Ligier at the end of the 2010 season.

Ben has a continuous record of success from early beginnings in karts, right through to top line single seaters, sportscars and GTs. He started karting aged 9 and went on to win British Championships before moving to single seaters at 17. Further successes and Championship titles followed before a switch to GT and sportcars in 2007. He last raced in SPEED at Anglesey in 2009 driving the Satellite Racing Norma where he put the car on pole.

Honda Motor Europe is extending its hospitality support for SPEED EuroSeries competitors.

HME will create the SPEED Drivers’ Club section in the race centre where drivers can have coffee or soft drinks when coming in to carry out event administration activities such as signing on decals etc.

HME will now also extend its welcome to competitors, teams and sponsors with the option of a bookable premium hospitality service at the race unit for breakfast and lunch for race days. At Spa this will be the Friday and Saturday with the cost per head being 55 Euros per day. Capacity is limited and on a first come first served basis.

SPEED has now received the invoice from LMS for the fuel used by competitors at Le Castellet.

Competitors’ 1000 Euro fuel bond must be ‘topped-up’ following each event to ensure that there is 1,000 Euros on the account prior to each event. At the end of the season the balance remaining on account will be returned to the payee.

We have sent out details of the amounts due in emails to teams. Please ensure this is paid before the Spa event.

Teams are advised to check their fuel tickets (green ticket issued at Le Castellet) to ensure the figures are correct. Please contact SPEED EuroSeries organisers if any problems.

Fuel will be available at Spa from Wednesday morning ex-tanker. Please ensure that teams have adequate drums for the transport of the fuel.

Teams must familiarise themselves with the fuel transportation regulations particular to Spa which can be found in the following document.

Portuguese-based LMP2 team, ASM Team, is working to join the Speed EuroSeries in 2012 with a 2 car team.

The team has been a reference point in the car racing in Portugal and Spain since 1997 and has met with success as LMP2 Champions in 2009 as well as picking up numerous national titles including the Spanish Super GT crown the same year.

An ASM spokesperson said: “ASM sees the SPEED EuroSeries as a very interesting and growing championship combining exciting driving on fantastic tracks and top class events with realistic costs.”

The ASM announcement comes as Portuguese interest in the series flourishes. At the next round in Spa Francorchamps, the Pegasus racing team will field racing brothers Pedro and Manuel Breyner. The experienced racers will be competing in at least six of the SPEED rounds in 2011.

The SPEED EuroSeries’ opening races provided some truly excellent racing.

The footage below is from on board the Howards Group Racing Team car 27 of Nigel Greensall and Jono Coleman at the start of race 2 at the Le Castellet event. It gives a great view of what its like to go from fourth on the grid to first in just over a lap!
