SPEED EuroSeries News - February 2011

Now that the SPA LMS event has been confirmed as Thursday 5th May to Saturday 7th May, there is potential for SPEED & Radical competitors to have exclusive testing during Wednesday 4th may.

To make this available we need to give early commitment. The total budget is Euros 10,000 for six hours open pitlane testing for SPEED cars [it will be the same budget for Radicals].

Please confirm your interest in participating. The more numbers signing up the lower the day’s testing costs. Email organisation@speedeuroseries.com to confirm.

SPA DATE ALTERATION

Due to issues concerning the Turkish Grand Prix and broadcast issues, the Le Mans Series organisers have brought the Spa event forward by one day so that the meeting will run over the Thursday 5th May through until the Saturday 7th May.

SPEED will therefore be on track on the Thursday for Free practice and qualifying, Friday for the first race and Saturday morning for the second race.

Top French racing teams are making entries in the new SPEED Euroseries which runs at the popular Le Mans Series events across Europe this year.

Already entries for the first race at Le Castellet have been confirmed by the IRS team, operated by Jose Ibanez and Blue One, the team run by former Grand Prix driver, Philippe Alliot. Further teams examining entries include Pegasus, Extreme Limite, Meca Moteur and Sicily-based Island Motorsport.

A unique Honda CR-Z Racer, prepared by HPD in the USA, will be the safety car for the SPEED Euroseries races running at Le Mans Series events this season. This CR-Z has been prepared to demonstrate the potential of the IMATM hybrid system which with a turbocharger fitted results in an estimated 200hp with 175lb-ft of torque.

The development car is fitted with limited-slip differential, uprated brakes and suspension and features additional aero components. HPD is Honda’s North American racing company.

The winners of the SPEED Euroseries at this season’s Le Mans Series events, will test a Formula Le Mans car with ORECA, the world’s leading independent sportscar team, Hugues de Chaunac, the founder and principal of ORECA, has chosen to highlight the 2-litre CN sports racing category as the best possible intro-formula for aspiring LMS competitors, in the Formula Le Mans.

“I believe the 2-litre CN formula is the best development class for LMS participants and we will test the winners of this season’s SPEED Euroseries.

The winning SPEED Euroseries drivers will join the ORECA team at a post season test and be evaluated at the wheel of a full-bloodied Formula Le Mans prototype, the ORECA built cars that have become the cornerstone of privateers in LMS in Europe and ALMS in the USA.

SPEED Euroseries director, Stuart McCrudden applauds the ORECA foresight: “To have the direct support of ORECA for our philosophy is proof that the SPEED Euroseries CN formula is right. With backing from Honda Motor Europe and race car manufacturers like Ligier, Norma, WFR and Wolf, there is a technology supply line of quality race cars at the right price, with sensible race costs, that deliver driver skills and entertainment. Our media exposure is global, valuable and accessible. The SPEED Euroseries is the future of sportscar racing.”
